CH 13 The Power of Personal Presence

Are you old enough to remember the TV show, Happy Days? Does the name Arthur Fonzarelli ring a bell? Remember when “The Fonz” would walk into a room?

If you don’t know who I’m talking about, check this out:

Talk about “personal presence.” That dude had personal presence.

What defines personal presence in Fonzie’s terms?

  • When he walks into a room, heads turn.
  • Conversations open up to include him.
  • When he speaks, people listen.
  • When he leads, people follow.

The Fonz had confidence. He had a style. He brought an air into the room when he entered.

Do you have that? Is your mindset “I have a million dollars in the bank and I don’t need the business?” Are you convinced you have the cure for your industry’s cancer?

Or do you carry around the weight of the world? Are your shoulders slouched and head hung low? Is your attitude driven by the response your prospect gives you? A “yes” and you’re flying high...a “no” and we’re scraping you off the floor?

While your personal presence has a lot to do with your physical presence, it’s often more about your self-belief (or self-doubt).

Whether you know it or not, your thoughts – the attitude, the head trash, the doubts, the questions – are coming across loud and clear to the person across the table.

When you love your product...when you can’t wait to get up in the morning to talk with more people about your product...when you genuinely believe you have the cure for your industry’s cancer, there’s nothing that can stop you!

And, truthfully, it won’t matter what you’re wearing or what type of briefcase you carry or car you drive, your personal presence is driven from the inside out. That confidence comes out and fills the room. People recognize it. They want it.

Only YOU can determine your personal presence. Starting with your thoughts and beliefs, personal presence emanates through your pores.

And, the people around you will notice.
